The Cat is now a part of a quirky and whimsical organization known as the Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration (I.I.I.I., LLC). His job? To bring joy, creativity, and a sense of wonder to children who are in need of cheering up. The main mission in this film is centered around Gabby and Sebastian, two young siblings who have recently moved to a new town and are having a hard time adjusting to their unfamiliar surroundings.
With the stakes high, the Cat needs to prove himself. If he fails to make these two kids smile and believe in imagination again, he risks losing his job — and even more tragically, his magical hat. That premise alone opens up the door for massive world-building opportunities and introduces a new emotional layer to the classic tale. As the Cat embarks on this chaotic mission, audiences are introduced to a dazzling cast of characters — including Thing 1 through Thing 13, as well as peculiar new additions like the Pig with a Wig, the Giraffe with a Carafe, and many more surreal Seuss-inspired beings that perfectly capture the author’s signature absurdity.

At the heart of the chaos is the always unpredictable Cat, voiced with playful energy by Bill Hader. Hader has previously portrayed the Cat in an SNL skit and reportedly pushed hard to land this role in the official movie.
